UBC Wins Heebink Bowl at Carnegie Lake

Carnegie Lake Regatta

Twenty-six Bargees traveled to Lake Carnegie in Princeton, NJ on July 13, 2013 to compete in the 28th Annual Carnegie Lake Regatta.  With Carl Spaeth, Jr. and Maria McDevitt leading the charge, our mission was clear…WIN THE TEAM POINTS TITLE.

In a full, steamy day of competition, UBC fielded fourteen crews in ten events, capturing eight first place finishes!  With wins in the 1x, 4x, 4+, and 8’s, both the men and women earned UBC a total of 37 points, 19 points over the next closest team, Greenwich.  After some exciting racing, the day culminated with the sponsoring, and 2012 points winner, Carnegie Lake Rowing Association, presenting The Heebink Bowl to UBC – the 2013 Carnegie Lake Regatta Team Champions.  With exhausted legs (we’ll let you do the math on number of times each Bargee raced), UBC hoisted the Bowl with pride, taking note that not only was this the first team points trophy earned at Lake Carnegie, but at any regatta for too many years past.  Check out the Bargees doing their best to rehydrate!

rehydrate 3The day was grounded upon true team effort – from organization of line-ups, through many rounds of rigging and derigging, to support for one another on and off the water – an amazing job by all!  Huge thanks to Carl Spaeth, Jr., Maria McDevitt, and Alex Cook for all their work and dedication to making this day a success!

Mark your calendars for next year when we will defend our title!
